Supplies to get before you begin packing

Checklist when moving to a new state

Are you moving soon? If you started planning your relocation process, you may be already thinking about which supplies you need to get before you can start packing. Everyone knows that packing is the most difficult and stressful procedure during any relocation, but don’t worry – we are here to help you with some tips on packing supplies! If you want to learn more about the supplies you’ll need before you can start packing, as well as how you can save some money on these supplies, continue reading!

1: Moving boxes

The most basic item that you’ll need for your packing process are moving boxes. You can opt for moving boxes of various sizes: small, medium, large, extra large. It depends on the items you’ll be packing inside of them. Before you start looking for appropriate moving boxes, you need to figure out how many moving boxes you’ll actually need. A good idea is to inventory all of the items you will be packing. By doing so, you’ll have a better idea of how many boxes you’ll need to get. If you want to save on moving boxes, you can repurpose old boxes or bins that you have at home.

2: Packaging material

Packaging material is the next item of the list of supplies that you’ll need. Packaging material is usually not that expensive, but it’s very important if you want to pack your items properly, and avoid any damage. Common packaging materials that people opt for include bubble wrap, foam peanuts, styrofoam balls, etc. However, if you don’t want to spend a fortune on packaging materials, you can opt for the cheaper variant: old newspaper, linens, towels, or anything else that can act as packaging material inside of the moving box!

3: Good quality sealing tape

The last essential item on the list is some good quality tape. The best tape that we recommend for packing is actually electric tape! Electric tape is cheap, but it’s really good and sturdy. You can also choose to get other types of tape, but make sure that you check that the tape is actually durable and that it won’t snap or come off during transportation.

4: Protective gloves

Let’s move on to some safety equipment. The first and most important item on this list are protective gloves. You want to be wearing protective gloves the whole time, because otherwise you may end up with corns on your hands! If you can’t afford to buy new protective gloves, you can simply use some old gloves you have lying around your house. Just make sure that the gloves are made from a thick fabric or material, such as rubber. A good example are gardening gloves.

5: Optional: Dollies and hand trucks

The last item on the list of safety equipment are dollies and hand trucks. Even though these are optional, they are still very useful, especially if you have a lot of bulky, large furniture that you need to transport to the moving truck. If you don’t want to spend additional money on hand trucks and dollies, invite a few friends over so that they can help you with the large furniture!
